Keep Awake Gadget: Wink Glasses

January 8th, 2010 by Lea No Comments yet

From the Japanese company, Mastunaga, comes a new gadget to keep awake: the Wink Glasses. A pair of lightweight, stylish looking glasses meant to help you stay awake. It is paired with a “wink sensor”, a detachable sheet of transparent liquid crystal sensor that fogs up when it senses no eye “winking” movement.

Wink Glasses: how do they work?

On average, an adult male blinks three times in a second, while women average almost two blinks every four seconds. Wink Glasses is a gadget that gives a leeway of 5 seconds, if it detects no eye movement (which would constitute to a person day dreaming, or about to doze off), the glasses will begin to cloud one eye. Fogging the vision of one side of the glasses is said to stimulate the brain, to wake you up. The moment it senses eye movement it will revert back to its transparent state.

Wink Glasses are USB powered, but are also able to function wirelessly up to 8 hours. The “wink sensor” can be attached to your prescription glasses.

Thanksgiving Gift Idea #3: Cold Therapy

September 25th, 2009 by Lea 2 Comments

Using ice to treat injuries is one of the oldest methods of pain control. While heat is great for improving circulation, and relaxing muscles, it won’t reduce any pain or swelling. Ice is the safest, easiest, and effective way to reduce swelling, relieving pain and decreasing muscle spasms.

Ice Face Roller

A gift idea for anyone who is prone to injury, or just wants to cool their body down in general I recommend the Ice Face Roller.

This small product is travel size, lightweight, and easy to use. The size and design allows this little innovation to be a multi-purpose tool, because you can use it anywhere on your body. It also has a detachable ice barrel, so you don’t have to freeze the whole thing, and it makes it easier to clean.

Ice Face Roller

How can I use the ice face roller?

Beauty uses…

This Ice Face Roller is great for those who want to reduce any facial swelling, like puffy eyes. It can also be used to close the skin pores, either in the morning, or before applying make up. By closing up your pores you reduce the amount of dirt and toxins that gets inside your skin. This helps you maintain cleaner, healthier and younger looking skin.

Body uses…

For injuries, swelling, or pain the Ice Face Roller can easily maneuver around. The non-stick ice barrel glides around smoothly, and doesn’t cause a pool of water like a bag of ice would.

If you have other ideas on how this product can be used, please leave a comment below to share :) .

Ice Roller – Handheld body roller

September 1st, 2009 by Lea No Comments yet

A new beauty product from Korea and has now entered the North American market. This product has an easy detachable ice roller, and is easy to use. Here are my reviews for anyone considering of buying this product:

Ice Roller Background Review

This ice roller is said to be a multi-purpose beauty and health tool. It can be used before you apply your make up, and is great for cooling fevers, muscle sores, aches and pains.

After the summer heat wave I found it particularly delightful, but I really enjoy using it in the morning and before applying make up to tighten my pores. The cooling sensation is great for soothing puffy eyes, but can also be used on other parts of the body as well.

Ice Roller Benefits:

-         Easy to detach & reattach ice barrel
-         Comfortable handle & easy to maneuver
-         Durable & portable
-         Even when frozen the barrel won’t stick to your skin (like licking a bus pole in winter)
-         Cooling sensation (especially during the summer heat wave)
-         No batteries/cords needed
-         Environmentally sound (no need to refill with water/waste water)
-         Easy to clean

Ice Roller Con’s:

-         Barrel seems too big for a small face (like mine). It’s hard to get in smaller areas, such as between the nose & eyes, even when trying to get to those eye bags.
-         A little pricey for my liking, but maybe worth it for those who need/would use it often. Unless you get it at a special discount, then it maybe more worthwhile.

Micro-Crystal Pad: Hair Removal

August 25th, 2009 by Lea No Comments yet

I always wanted to find an alternative to the regular hair removal methods, but this one seems to good to be true. I saw this on commercial long ago, but never thought much of it until my boyfriend and I went to a convention and saw them. We decided to let the rep to demonstrate on us, and after my experience the only thing I could think of was “sales gimmick”.

Micro-Crystal Pads Background…

These micro-crystal pads are said to exfoliate, while removing unwanted hair from legs, underarms, upper lip and sensitive areas. This is suppose to be the easier and safer alternative to hair removal that does not leave behind bumps, cuts or residue of chemicals.

My experience with Hair Removal Pad…

She attempted to demonstrate on my arm, which wasn’t effective in my opinion because my arm hair is already fine to the point of invisibility. So I coaxed my boyfriend into letting her test an area on his leg. She began to rub where the calf met the foot joint, a couple times one way, then reverse.

The first few rotations are suppose to exfoliate the dead skin cells away, and then rubbing in the opposite direction is suppose to remove the hair.

Micro-Crystal Pad Hair Removal Results…

Not that we could really see, because the area she chose again wasn’t really full of hair to begin with. It made the area very ashy, and I assume it was the dead skin cells, but I couldn’t really notice any difference in terms of hair quantity.

Does anyone else have an opinion?…

After doing a bit of a background check I found that for some people, these crystal pads worked after a while of rubbing. Though the continuous rubbing no doubt could leave your skin irritated and ashy looking after wards.

My recommendation for those wanting to try it, don’t get ripped off. While the convention was selling a package for $25 I could get the same thing off of Ebay or some online store for less than $10.

DermaSilk Anti-Wrinkle Capsules

August 20th, 2009 by Lea No Comments yet

A new product that surfaced during a conversation I had with my friends of beauty advisors, at our last girly-gathering of tea and yummies.  DermaSilk Anti-Wrinkle Pills? While there are creams can it really be possible that we may have the alternative of consuming our way to beauty?

Has anyone tried this Derma Silk Anti-Wrinkle Product?

As skin ages, it naturally loses its flexibility and elasticity over time. Giving way to a less youthful appearance of sagging and wrinkles. Dermasilk Anti-Wrinkle product is considered to provide skin-specific antioxidants and anti-aging ingredients to combat these negative effects, and to help improve the look and feel of skin.

It’s considered to be a more dynamic and effective approach to healthier, more beautiful skin, safely and naturally. While other products tackle you from the outside, DermaSilk takes the opposite route, starting from the inside, out. A dietary supplement formulated with an effective blend of key nutrients for optimum health and beauty.

DermaSilk anti wrinkle pills are said to:

  • Reduce wrinkles and fine lines
  • Increase firmness and elasticity
  • Promote collagen production
  • Increase hydration and skin density
  • Reduce age spots
  • Deliver beneficial skin-specific antioxidants

Whatever happened to the days of graceful aging?

Salt Skin Care

July 27th, 2009 by brian No Comments yet

PRO: Leaves your skin feeling gorgeous. Great Smell !!

CONS: the price: $17  for 650 g jar

salt scrub Salt Skin Care

Sanctuary just came up with SALT SCRUB…to add to you Spa routine and I must say, the results can be fantastic. You simply hop in the show or tub…and gently rub it everywhere…to exfoliate dead skin. It a very gentle scrub and you’ll feel a nice tingling sensation! It’s similar to their other product, the Sugar Scrub. The Sugar Scrub has the advantage of warming up your skin upon contact, whereas this one doesn’t….so I recommend using the Salt Scrub during the summer and vis-versa.

Galvanic does wonders!

October 3rd, 2008 by chiactivate No Comments yet

I am 32 years of age and am stating to feel the effects of gravity (god help me). A friend of mine actually advised me to start using the galvanic treatment on my face. Well her being an esthetician I took her advice, and surprisingly I started to see results quicker than I had imagined. The muscles on my face have started to get tighter and more youthful looking.

I have been using it about 3-4 times a week and have seen drastic results compared to pictures I took before I started. My skin looks brighter, vibrant and healthy not to mention youthful, especially around my eyes, where most of the sagging was starting to occur.

Believe it or not I was asked for my ID when purchasing lottery tickets a few weeks ago! I definitely urge people to start using this treatment regularly. It is effective, easy, comfortable and painless! If you don’t believe me then try it for yourself, you have nothing to lose.

How to prevent and treat skin disorders by Sun Damage?

June 17th, 2008 by chiactivate No Comments yet

When I say sun damage I mean the negative impact too much unprotected exposure to sun light can have on the look, feel and health of our skin. This sun damage is caused by UV rays. Sun light consists of two different kinds of UV rays, UVA and UVB. UVB rays are the cause of sunburns. UVA rays however, are not only responsible for excessive skin aging, but can also lead to skin cancer.

Unfortunately, most people will not give up tanning, outdoors activities or go outside only with all their skin covered despite the risks involved. We love the sun.

Sunlight can have a damaging effect on your skin, but you can prevent it. There are several ways you can protect your skin from sun damage such as premature aging, wrinkles, sun blotches and changes in the pigmentation. Especially if you spend a lot of time exposed to sun light, like spending your days at the beach, running marathons or working outside you should heed the following advise.

  • Always use a sunscreen, sun blocker or sun crème. Ask your pharmacist or dermatologist which UV protection your skin needs. A thumb rule is: the lighter the skin type, the higher the protection needed to prevent sun damage.
  • Enrich your diet and use skincare products that have soy components in them. Soy can smooth and moisturize the skin and also helps against sun blotches by evening the overall skin tone.
  • The sun can damage the skin by causing so called oxidative stress through free radicals. This can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin. After exposing your skin to sunlight you should use an after sun lotion or similar skincare product that contains the vitamins C and E. These vitamins counter oxidative stress and help the skin repair previous sun damage.
  • Chemical Peels: skincare products that help the skin rejuvenate and regenerate itself by shedding its’ outer layer. The skin is noticeably smoother and softer after a peeling. However, you should not do a peeling after a long day in the sun as the skin is already stressed.

There are more invasive measures that can be taken in order to treat sun damage. These include non prescription and prescription medication and cosmetic treatments such as laser treatments as well as BoTox, collagen and fat injections. Personally, I am of the opinion that the less medication the better, no matter if it’s over the counter or not.  Enjoy the sun, but with care, and use natural, non-invasive ways to help your skin protect itself from sun damage. Prevention is always better than treatment.
